Im glad I stayed Nanshu Caotang in Qianmen. I was looking at a few different hotels in the area, and I chose it because of the location. Its in a hutong, and they do tell you that if you are to be picked up or dropped off that its easier to do so from the metro station. It's only a couple of minutes' walk. The area is very quiet yet still near enough qianmen pedestrian street and tiananmen sq. It's less than a 10 minute walk. The hotel is small and for me it's part of the charm of a building in a hutong. There are restaurants on the main street that's within walking distance where you can get something to eat. I personally didn't have anything delivered to the hotel as I mostly ate out. The room that I had was enough for a solo traveler. It might be a bit tight for 2 people with luggages but they do have bigger rooms for that. What stood out to me was the service. I booked my room last minute and asked if I could leave my bags until it was time to check in. Fortunately, the room was free, and I was able to check in right away. All the staff were very nice and hospitable. I stayed for 3 nights, and every day, as I walked out, the front desk staff would greet me as I left, and as I came back. I read a review about communicating in English, and in my experience, this is true for most of the hotels I've stayed at in China. However, the staff at this hotel really made an effort to communicate in English and in other languages as well by using a translation app. I do understand that translation apps aren't perfect, but that's not the fault of the staff. Special shout out to Hui. I though that it was self laundry but you actually hand them your laundry and they wash and dry it for you. Everytine I saw Hui she was always smiling, and this is true for all the staff as well. It made me feel safe and welcome as a female solo traveller.
